Diner Dash: Sizzle & Serve: Review
A game where you play as a frazzled, overworked restaurant waitress doesn’t really sound like a bundle of fun on the surface, but with Diner Dash: Sizzle & Serve, Eidos Interactive was somehow able to make the job into a fun, frantic frenzy. The learning curve is fast on Diner Dash so you won’t have sit through a long tutorial before you can finally play the game. The use of the stylus for the Nintendo DS makes movements and action simple and precise.
The gameplay starts out simple, but gradually becomes more and more complex as your restaurant tables increase and the types of annoying customers change. Some of the types of customers you get react differently to different situations, the college student studying at the table will get easily annoying and unhappy if he/she is seated next to a crying baby; the restaurant reviewer is very demanding and has little patience; the family with the baby will leave if they don’t get a high chair, and so on. Luckily the restaurants in the game don’t include a bar or bar stools because that would be a whole different set of characters.
The great variety of situations and people will keep you on your toes taking orders, cleaning dishes and seating people. The “levels†are based on a point system with each customer given a heart balloon that will slowly drop as they are unsatisfied. If the heart level drops to nothing then you lose the customer and the points you would get from them. The goal is to hit a certain number of point for each level, with bonuses and double points awarded if you are able to Juggle two things at once, for instance, carrying a dirty dish in one hand and someone’s order in the other, or taking two meals from the kitchen at once to the tables.
As you progress through the game you are able to own different restaurants which bring in different clienteles, from the Diner to the Mexican Restaurant to the High Class restaurant. Diner Dash is an addicted puzzle/adventure game that will make you want to become a restaurant waiter in no time. Or not.
